Dia de los Muertos

In the Disney Pixar’s movie Coco, it is based on a young boy Miguel who is passionate about music and wishes to become an accomplished musician like his idol Ernesto de la Cruz but due to his family’s ban on music, it is a bit challenging for him to reach his goal. Miguel finds himself in a colorful world where the dead now stay but later learns the real story behind his family’s history. His journey around the colorful land is led by a homeless yet charming trickster named Hector.
Every year in the Mexican culture there is a Mexican holiday where we celebrate our loved ones who have passed away, Dia de Los Muertos. Families either set up in their homes an altar with pictures of their loved ones, put their favorite dish, set flowers and light up candles or some may go to a cemetery and do the same. Dia de los Muertos honors the dead with festivals and lively celebrations just like in the movie Coco. My mother has an altar in her home with family members who have passed away and always has flowers for them. Not only on Dia de los Muertos does my mom decorate the Altar, but also on their anniversary of death.
